The RRB NTPC 2026 Notification was officially released on 20th October 2025, announcing a total of 8,868 vacancies across Graduate-level and Undergraduate-level posts under CEN 06/2025 and CEN 07/2025. The recruitment includes posts like Station Master, Goods Train Manager, Junior Clerk cum Typist, Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, and several others spread across 21 Railway zones in India.

To apply for RRB NTPC 2026, a candidate must be any one of the following:

• A citizen of India
• A subject of Nepal or Bhutan
• A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 with the intention to permanently settle here
• A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India

Candidates belonging to the latter three categories must obtain an eligibility certificate from the Government of India before submitting their applications.

Age is calculated as on January 1, 2026 (the official reference/cutoff date as per the RRB NTPC 2026 notification). Candidates must fall within the eligible age bracket on this specific date, regardless of when the exam is held or when applications were submitted.

Category-Wise Age Relaxation

The Railway Recruitment Board grants age relaxation to reserved category candidates as per Central Government norms. The relaxation is applied to the upper age limit only.

Important Age-Related Rules

These rules are critical to get right before applying. Errors here are among the most common reasons for application rejection at the Document Verification stage:

• Reference Date: Your age must be calculated as on January 1, 2026. Not on the date of application or examination.
• Age Proof Document: The candidate must present the SSC (Matriculation) mark sheet or any other educational certificate acceptable to the board as age proof.
• Category Change Not Allowed: Once the online application form is submitted, the category (UR/OBC/SC/ST) cannot be changed under any circumstances.
• OBC Non-Creamy Layer Only: OBC age relaxation applies exclusively to OBC (NCL) candidates. OBC candidates from the Creamy Layer are treated as General/UR candidates and are not eligible for any relaxation.
• PwBD + Category Relaxation: PwBD candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC who apply for UR vacancies are entitled only to the relaxation available for UR PwBD, not the cumulative SC/ST/OBC + PwBD relaxation.
• Ex-Servicemen Calculation: The age relaxation for Ex-Servicemen is calculated by deducting the actual military service period from the candidate's age. The resulting figure must not exceed the upper age limit plus the prescribed relaxation of 3/6/8 years.
• Incorrect age leads to disqualification: Even if a candidate clears all stages of the examination, ineligibility on age grounds can result in cancellation of candidature at the Document Verification stage.

Educational Qualification (Post-Wise)

The minimum educational qualification for RRB NTPC 2026 varies depending on whether you are applying for a Graduate-level post or an Undergraduate-level post. The qualification must be from a recognised Board or University as approved by the Central/State Government.

Medical Standards

All selected candidates undergo a medical examination at the final stage. The medical standards are post-specific and focus primarily on vision and physical fitness. Candidates must meet these standards to be formally appointed.

Candidates with colour blindness are not eligible for posts requiring A2 or A3 medical standards. It is strongly recommended to get a full eye check-up done before applying to posts under those categories.

Typing Test Requirement

Certain posts under RRB NTPC require candidates to clear a Typing Skill Test (TST) as an additional qualifying stage. This test is mandatory and qualifying in nature. It does not add to the merit score, but failure to qualify means non-selection.
